An armed group broke into a prison in the Mexican state of Hidalgo on Wednesday and freed nine inmates, according to the state Public Security Secretariat (SSP) in a statement.
The incident took place at the Tula Social Reintegration Center, some 86 kilometers west of Pachuca.
During the early morning hours, the subjects arrived "aboard vehicles, threatening prison security personnel," according to the statement.
The Secretariat also reported that there were clashes.
Two agents were injured and both "already receive medical attention", although it was not specified to which entity they belong.
Although the Hidalgo SSP did not provide additional details about the incident, local media reported that the armed group detonated two vehicles, one near the prison and the other on a highway.

An additional request for information sent by CNN on Wednesday to the Secretariat was not immediately answered.

According to the statement, SSP agents, members of the National Army and members of the Hidalgo Attorney General's Office, among other entities, carry out an operation to find those involved in the incident.
Until this Wednesday, no arrests were reported after the escape from prison.
