A bus driver on line 30, traveling from Be'er Sheva to Lakia, was attacked last night (Tuesday) with tear gas by teenagers.
The attack took place at one of the stations in Lakia and took place after the bus driver asked the passengers to wear a mask.
The drivers' organization from the Histadrut claims that this serious case joins the steep rise in driver assaults in recent times.
According to data from the organization, which monitors the issue through a comprehensive annual report, in 2020 drivers experienced 3,644 cases of physical violence. In practice, the number is much higher as only 47% of cases were reported.
Horror on the way to Eilat: A bus was pelted with stones
In addition, 40% of drivers reported experiencing physical violence at work during 2020, of which 19% reported three or more cases.
The Organization of Bus Drivers in Israel from the Histadrut condemned the recent incidents of violence in which bus drivers were attacked and even referred to the assault incident that took place yesterday, in which an Egged bus was stoned to death on the way to Eilat in the Dimona area.
"Only recognizing bus drivers as public servants can save their lives and the lives of passengers and cause attackers of drivers to sit behind bars. Law enforcement agencies must act accordingly. Buses and drivers are a symbol of government and therefore attack them and drivers pay a heavy price. Terrorism against drivers and buses must be stopped. ", Noted in the organization.
