A bill from the Canadian government of Justin Trudeau banning conversion therapy, which claims to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity, was passed unanimously on Wednesday December 1 in the Commons, the lower house of Parliament.

This text, which aims to protect homosexual, bisexual and transgender people, must now be approved by the Senate.

47,000 men involved
On Monday and for the third time, the Liberal government of Justin Trudeau tabled a text in Parliament to ban these practices, a subject that was one of its priorities after the legislative elections in September.
A previous version had also been adopted in the House during the previous legislature before falling into limbo with the call of the legislative elections this summer.
The bill creates four new offenses in the Canadian criminal code, including prohibiting anyone from being subjected to conversion therapy, advertising or profiting from such practices.
According to an official survey released in February 2020, 47,000 Canadian men belonging to a sexual minority were subjected to conversion therapy.
