CNN reported Tuesday that it has suspended Chris Cuomo "indefinitely."

Cuomo's suspension comes after a series of new documents released this week indicated that the presenter engaged more deeply than previously known to help his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, put together a defense amid a flood of sexual misconduct allegations.

"The New York Prosecutor's Office published transcripts and evidence on Monday that shed new light on Chris Cuomo's involvement in the defense of his brother," a CNN spokesman said Tuesday night.

"The documents, of which we were not aware before being published, raise serious doubts."

"When Chris admitted that he had advised his brother's staff, he broke our rules, and we publicly acknowledged it," the spokesperson continued.

"But we also appreciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and work second."

"However, these documents point to a higher level of involvement in his brother's defense efforts than we previously knew about," he added.

"As a result, we suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation."
