Homs-Sana

The cadres of the Directorate of Water Resources in Homs are working at a high rate to rehabilitate and maintain the damaged parts of the Houla irrigation project, west of Homs, which, after completing its rehabilitation, irrigates 1,136 hectares of agricultural land, which contributes to its reinvestment and eases the burden on farmers.

Regarding the project, Engineer Ismail Ismail, Director of Water Resources in Homs, explained to SANA Economic Bulletin that work began on it at the beginning of the 11th month and over a period of four months. He indicated that this project, whose main source is the Taldou Dam, irrigates about 1136 hectares of agricultural land and, upon completion, will serve 50,000 families in the towns of "Taldu - Kafr Laha - Taldehab".

For his part, Engineer Salim Salem, the project manager, indicated with a similar statement that the works are still in their infancy, as the initial work is being done to rehabilitate and maintain the main canal, including removing the old concrete and reconfiguring the canal according to high-accuracy technical specifications, provided that the rest of the work will be completed later.

For their part, a number of farmers in the Houla region expressed the importance of the project in reviving agricultural lands in their area, which would contribute to alleviating the costs of agricultural work, increasing production and improving their standard of living.
