The city decided some time ago that there will be no Christmas market in Penzberg this year due to the current pandemic.

The market should actually have taken place on the first Sunday in Advent, but was canceled due to the high incidence in the Weilheim-Schongau district.

- It is now clear that there will be no alternative to the big Christmas market. "We called off everything," said town hall spokesman Thomas Sendl yesterday when asked. Neither individual stalls will be set up, nor will there be a mini Christmas market like last year. At that time, as an alternative to a large two-day Christmas market, a few wooden stalls were set up at a large distance from one another on the town square.

Sendl justified the city's clear no to any pre-Christmas booth magic with the still high incidences in the district and the tense situation in the hospitals.

The health department had also advised to forego any form of Christmas market this year.

“We're leaving the town square as it is,” said Sendl.

Only the advent calendar on the town hall facade will be there.

Mayor Stefan Korpan would have gladly seen it if individual stalls could have been set up, "but you have to face the facts", Sendl regretted.
