Georgia domestic violence case kills four, including police officer

At least four people died, including a police officer, after local authorities responded to an alert call for a possible case of domestic violence on Tuesday in Clayton County, south of the Atlanta metropolitan area.

The victims are two women, field training officer Henry Laxson, and the alleged assailant, Clayton County police were quoted as saying by local television station WSB-TV.

A child and another officer were also shot and wounded, County Sheriff Kevin Roberts said.

The minor is in critical but stable condition;

and the agent, identified as Alex Chandler, is expected to survive.

The police explained that on Tuesday night they received a first call alerting to a possible case of domestic violence and then another about a child who was wounded by a gunshot.

When the agents arrived, they found the minor and one of the women in the courtyard of the house.

As they tried to help them, someone started shooting at the officers.

The suspect died during the shootout with the officers.

The police did not reveal the identity of the victims or the assailant.

Laxson is the third North Georgia police officer to die in the line of duty since November, according to WSB-TV.

On November 5, Officer Henry Paramhans Desai was shot while attempting to carry out an arrest and died days later.

That same day, Jackson County Agent Lena Marshall was shot when responding to a call about a domestic incident.

He passed away from his injuries on November 8.
