Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, discussed today with Rola Dashti, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia “ESCWA” areas of cooperation between the Syrian government and ESCWA.
Minister Miqdad praised the existing cooperation between the two sides and the efforts made by ESCWA to deal with national priorities and needs through continuous coordination with the concerned Syrian authorities, noting the positive results that have resulted in this.
Minister Al-Miqdad stressed the need to increase and strengthen cooperation with ESCWA in various fields, especially in light of the conditions resulting from the terrorist war, economic terrorism, and unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria, which negatively affect the lives and economic conditions of the Syrian people.
For her part, Dashti expressed her appreciation for the existing cooperation between the Syrian government and ESCWA, and for the facilities and support provided to their work in Syria, stressing that the organization will do everything possible to carry out its tasks to serve the Syrian people.
Dashti presented the current established work plans and the possibilities of expanding them during the coming period, stressing her keenness to coordinate with the concerned Syrian authorities to achieve progress in all programs and projects within the framework of national needs.
The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq, Director of the Special Office, Rania Al-Hajj Ali, Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, and from the ESCWA side, Mehrinaz Al-Awad, Head of Social Development, Karim Khalil, Secretary of the Organization, and Regional Adviser Nawar Al-Awad.
