National Party of Honduras recognizes the triumph of Xiomara Castro

Nasry Asfura, presidential candidate of the National Party of Honduras, congratulated Xiomara Castro, of the Free Party, on Tuesday for his victory in this Sunday's elections, and said in a statement late at night that he had conveyed that recognition to her earlier in person.

Asfura said that she also wanted "that God enlighten her and guide her so that in her administration she does the best for the benefit of all of us Hondurans, to achieve that development and the hopes of democracy."

He also revealed that he had asked Castro "to respect the results of all our candidates for deputies and mayors in the country."

Asfura affirmed that he assumed "the duty to make a constructive opposition" and said that the electoral results must be respected by "ours and all the political parties."

"We openly extend our hand to the incoming government to work towards building a better Honduras," the text states.

"Always framed in inalienable issues such as the defense of life, freedom of expression and respect for private property, public institutions and especially the rule of law," adds the statement.

Until this Tuesday night, with 52.57% of the records scrutinized, the National Electoral Council's count gave 53.41% of votes to Xiomara Castro, 34.08% to Nasry Asfura and 9.20% to candidate Yani Rosenthal.
