Opinion | Deja Vu: The hatred in Ramallah and Lod is the same hatred Israel today

2021-12-01T21:36:07.053Z

The attempted lynching in Ramallah is reminiscent of the days of October 2000, but also of what happened in the cities involved during Operation Guardian of the Walls.

The phrase "lynching in Ramallah" is not just a shaky sentence - it is deja vu for the days of October 2000, the beginning of the al-Aqsa intifada, when 2 reservists Yossi Avrahami and Wadim Norzich were massacred in memory of a Palestinian mob there in Ramallah.

A little over 20 years have passed since then, and here tonight we almost witnessed a similar incident, while two Israelis were rescued from the mad crowd in that Ramallah.

It is impossible to avoid the deja vu, nor is it possible to avoid the connection to the "Guardian of the Walls" events, only a few months ago, in which we were exposed to a number of lynching attempts in Israeli cities, with an emphasis on Lod and Acre.

But in today's event there is a point of light and a point of darkness.

The bright spot stems from the fact that the Palestinian security forces rescued the two Israelis from the area.

Do not think for a moment that this happened from "Love of Mordechai", the Palestinians have not forgotten the chaos brought on them by the terrorist intifada of the early 2000s.

Even in Ramallah they know what chaos will bring

The Palestinian security forces are well aware that similar chaos will overthrow the PA and bring Hamas on them - which is worse for them than a disaster.

Twenty years ago, the Palestinians refrained from rescuing the Border Police officer from Dahat Yosef Zichro Labracha, and an IDF stutter also led to his death.

Today, the situation is apparently different, and it indicates a clear interest in cooperation, which stems in part from deterrence - not only from the IDF, but also from the fear that Hamas will take advantage of possible chaos and take over Judea and Samaria territory.

But beside this point of light there is also a point of darkness.

Two civilians are caught in a herd of human animals, from which hatred is dripping, and there is not the slightest hint of a human photographer.

What did the citizens who got into this situation sin?

That they roamed Areas Rahmana Letzelen?

Does this justify such a program?

And what does this really remind us all of?

Despite the relief: burning hatred

The burning hatred from the Palestinian masses incited in the streets of Ramallah is the same as the Arab masses incited in Lod, Acre, and more.

Hatred and anti-Semitism have reached a disturbing level.

There is no value to human life - that's what this crowd is transmitting.

And this is a good representation of the underground currents in Palestinian territory that have been receiving economic refinement and cooperation from Israel over the past 15 years.

The chaos that prevailed in Judea and Samaria during the second intifada has disappeared, the streets of Ramallah are flourishing - but the incited crowd is not interested - they have probably already forgotten what happens when the State of Israel decides to take off its gloves.

Abu Mazen has not forgotten, neither he nor the group of tycoons around him - their fear of being thrown off the roofs and slaughtered as was done to their colleagues in Gaza by Hamas after the recent Palestinian elections in the Palestinian Authority in 2006 are terrifying among them.

And they will do everything possible, but really everything, not to let those events repeat themselves.

But a problem.

To what extent can the shaky government of the PA cope with the masses?

To what extent can this shaky body, which has been used quite a bit by the IDF to maintain its survival, be able to cope with the same underground currents that Hamas is leading? Iranian.

Hatred in the streets, then, can certainly be a sign of things to come, hence the Judea and Samaria arena may ignite and not for long. It is also necessary to be prepared for an overall scenario, multi-arena deterioration and the need for the IDF to operate in three and possibly even four arenas at the same time. At the operational and strategic level.

Were we wrong?
