Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed during a session of the General Assembly that the correct position of the General Assembly, which is consistent with the principles and purposes of the Charter of the International Organization, was confirmed by the Security Council in its Resolution No. 497, rejecting the Israeli occupation decision regarding the occupied Syrian Golan, considering it null and void and having no legal effect. .

Sabbagh said: Failure to put an end to the United Nations' inability to implement its resolutions encourages the Israeli occupation to continue its aggressive practices against our people in the occupied Syrian Golan.

Sabbagh added: Syria calls on the United Nations to take firm and immediate measures to put its decisions into practice to ensure the end of the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan and other occupied Arab lands.

Sabbagh said: Syria affirms its firm adherence to its right to regain the entire occupied Syrian Golan, and this right is not subject to negotiation or concession and can never be waived by prescription, pointing out that Syria confirms that the measures taken by “Israel” the occupying power to change the parameters of the Syrian Golan or impose its laws and authorities It is null and void and has no legal effect.

 Sabbagh said: Syria renews its firm stance in support of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and the guarantee of the refugees' right to return to their homes.

Sabbagh added: Syria calls on all member states to vote in favor of the draft resolution entitled “The Occupied Syrian Golan,” which expresses its commitment to the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.
