December 1st is World AIDS Day.
In 2020, 40 people were tested for the virus in the Tölz health department.
Bad Tölz
- World AIDS Day was first proclaimed by the WHO in 1988 and takes place worldwide on December 1st.
The Tölzer Kurier spoke to Dr.
Stephan Gebrande, head of the health department.
Mr. Gebrande, AIDS and HIV are hardly an issue these days. Is there still a demand for AIDS advice at the health department?
If so, it happens directly in the course of a test.
Because these have been negative in recent years, we have practically no need for advice.

How many people per year take the opportunity to take an AIDS test at the health department?
In 2019 there were 53, last year 40 and this year 33 until November 29th.
All tests were negative.
Living with HIV infection is now possible thanks to the improvement in treatment options. Why is there still a need for prevention work or a World AIDS Day?
Of course, just because all test results were negative doesn't mean that AIDS doesn't exist anymore.
Improved medicine carries a bit of the risk that the subject might be handled too carelessly.
That is why prevention work is still important.
