Variant Omicron and Covid-19: the new measures to travel to Portugal this winter

2021-12-01T14:36:12.068Z

Faced with the increase in new cases and the identification of the Omicron strain, the Portuguese government has decreed new restrictions throughout the mainland. They have been in effect since December 1st.

Portugal, one of the favorite European destinations for the French all year round, is widely open to visitors from France and Europe, vaccinated or not.

And for good reason, the Lusitanian state has worked hard to deal with the Covid-19 epidemic with the highest vaccination rate in Europe (around 90% of the population is fully vaccinated on December 1), and by adopting this set of preventive measures, so that all economic activities, including tourism, function fully.

Despite this, the country announced on November 25 that it would reimpose restrictions to end an upsurge in cases, ordering all passengers taking a flight to Portugal to present a negative test certificate upon arrival. “

No matter how successful the vaccination is, we must be aware that we are entering a phase of greater risk,

” Prime Minister Antonio Costa said at a press conference. But out of 1.8 million people over 65, there were about 600,000 missing, according to the report established on November 30, in the evening by the Directorate General of Health.

And everything accelerated with the new Omicron strain.

Anxious to avoid the disaster scenario caused last winter by the Alpha variant, the government has followed suit with most European countries and reinstated a series of health measures.

Measures in force from this December 1 and until January 9, 2022 on national territory and abroad.
