The head of the Agricultural Affairs Office in the General Union of Farmers, Muhammad Al-Khalif, indicated that work and coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture are underway to ensure the success of the agricultural production plan for the strategic and main crops for the current season by providing agricultural production requirements such as seeds, fertilizers, fuels, electricity and insecticides, noting that the largest percentage of farmers secure the requirements of agricultural production. Self-producing from private markets at high prices and outside the capacity of the majority of farmers, which increases the costs of agricultural production.
In a statement to SANA Economic Bulletin, Al-Khalif indicated that the amount of precipitation plays a key role in accelerating the implementation of the agricultural plan, and we saw a significant decline in production during the last season, given that rain-fed agriculture constitutes the large percentage, especially in the governorates of Hasaka, Deir Ezzor, Raqqa and Aleppo countryside, pointing to the need to speed up the rehabilitation Government irrigation projects affected by terrorism, which contribute to increasing the irrigated areas planted with wheat.
For their part, a number of farmers in the eastern region and the island demanded, in a previous statement to the economic bulletin, including Salah Al-Hajji, Nashmi Al-Aboud, Salama Al-Ukla and Saleh Al-Sultan, that the requirement to sell the seed should be abolished by showing a clearance from the banks because the majority of farmers incur debts to banks as a result of the decline in production and farmers incurring large losses Forcing them to reduce the cultivated areas dramatically, pending the rain.
In turn, Engineer Ahmed Haidar, Director of Plant Production at the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, indicated that work is underway to provide agricultural production requirements for wheat and barley crops to ensure the implementation of the agricultural plan set in the amount of 1.5 million hectares for wheat and more than 1.4 million hectares for barley, noting that the cultivation process has begun in most regions. The implementation rate of the plan reached 11-30 for the wheat crop, 11 percent, and the barley crop, 18 percent.
