The President and CEO of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), Steve Simon, announced the immediate suspension of all WTA tournaments in China, including Hong Kong.

Simon said on Wednesday that the decision was based on the lack of transparency by Chinese officials following the accusation of tennis player Peng Shuai of sexual assault against a senior Chinese government official.

The WTA has yet to release the 2022 event schedule, but on average, the professional tennis tour held around 10 tournaments each year in China, including the season ending.
