The IDF will be declared a police unit for taking over and rescuing hostages (Walla system!)
The Border Police, the special unit of the Border Police, was announced this evening (Wednesday) as the national police unit for the takeover and rescue of hostages and the war on terror of the State of Israel.

The unit was established in 1974 after a Maalot incident in which 24 students were murdered.
Horeb Committee established following the event defined the responsibilities of state and division branches of the IDF and the police. The police claimed responsibility for internal security of the State of Israel, and the task for the establishment of a special police unit was assigned to the Border Patrol.
