As part of the activities of the 16-day campaign against gender-based violence, Al-Nada Association today, in cooperation with the legal department of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, organized an event entitled (The Peace Council) in the hall of the Commercial Graduates Association in Mezzeh.

The event, in which a number of educational and medical cadres participated, included a presentation of a number of cases of women who were subjected to family and community violence. The effects of this violence on women, the family and the community were discussed, the mechanism of action to support survivors of it healthily and psychologically, and ways of cooperation from various parties to provide the necessary support to reintegrate them into society and empower them educationally and legally. and economically.

In a statement to the SANA representative, the coordinator of the program against gender-based violence in the association, Ghofran Al-Nufi, indicated that the aim of the event is to raise awareness among a number of people who may witness violent cases during their work and how to deal with them, and coordinate with government and civil agencies to provide support and appropriate treatment according to each case. Al-Nufi indicated that the association provides the necessary advice to everyone who has been subjected to violence, as these cases are followed up through a specialized team, while maintaining the confidentiality of the case, noting that there are six centers affiliated with the association that provide this type of services in Damascus and its countryside.

In turn, lawyer Basem Maalla spoke about the legal articles related to the protection of women from violence and the importance of educating women about the rights guaranteed to them by the constitution and the law.

Psychological counselor Haifa Hamidouch pointed out the psychological impact on battered women and the importance of partnership between various parties to reduce the phenomenon of violence and find appropriate solutions to create a social environment that provides gender equality.

The 16 Days Campaign is a global campaign that begins on November 25 of each year, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on December 10, International Human Rights Day.
