Abortion awareness clause: "I saw a baby in a plastic bucket"

Adopted in second reading by the National Assembly on November 29, the bill "aimed at strengthening the right to abortion" provides for extending the legal deadline from 12 to 14 weeks of pregnancies to perform an abortion.

The initial text, defended by the deputies Albane Gaillot (ex-LREM, not registered) and Marie-Noëlle Battistel (PS), also provided for the deletion of the conscience clause of caregivers specific to voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion), different from the general conscience clause of caregivers.

However, this measure, highly controversial in the medical community - the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, himself a doctor, expressed his reservations - was ultimately not retained by the deputies.
