Artistic and sports segments and various competitions in which children with disabilities participated in an event organized by the Association for the Care of Children with Cerebral Palsy today at its headquarters in Damascus.
The celebration, which was held on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which falls on December 3 of each year, aims, according to the Chairperson of the Association’s Board of Directors, Dr. Sahar Karabash, to activate the participation of these children within an educational and entertaining framework, indicating that their International Day is an opportunity to enhance the support provided to them from various parties and raise awareness. The importance of integrating this segment into society effectively.
Karabash pointed out that the association, which was established in 1980, receives children from two to 12 years of age with cerebral palsy and Down syndrome, as well as children with speech difficulties, and provides them with assessment services, psychomotor and physical therapy, mental tests and intellectual development.
The Executive Director of the company supporting the event, Dr. Razi Mohieldin, pointed out the importance of the private sector’s participation and its social responsibility to support the various segments of society. A number of children’s families pointed out that the interactive activities constitute an incentive to encourage their children and show their talents directly in front of the audience, noting the role of NGOs by providing them with support.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated on December 3, after it was first approved by the United Nations in 1992 with the aim of supporting this category, integrating it into society and raising awareness of its issues.
