Austria's Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg resigns after just under two months.
This was announced by the politician of the conservative ÖVP.
Just hours earlier, his predecessor Sebastian Kurz announced his retirement as ÖVP party leader.
"I am firmly convinced that both offices - head of government and chairman of the strongest party in Austria - should soon be held in personal union again," explained Schallenberg.
"I will therefore make my post as Federal Chancellor available as soon as the appropriate course has been set within the party."
