The defense had asked for a fine
After Li pleaded guilty earlier, the court asked for a probation order and social service order report for Li, but when Li met with the probation officer, he indicated that he was unwilling to fulfill the two orders.
The lawyer representing Li hoped that the court would consider imposing a fine when he pleaded. He also pointed out that Li’s family promised to ensure that Li sees social workers and psychiatric counselling.
Officials say fines are not the only option for sentencing
But Mo Guan believes that the only way to fine a summons for a non-restricted gathering order is that the maximum penalty in this case can be sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
As a student, Li didn't study hard, instead went to politics, ignored the ban to participate in gatherings, and ignored the epidemic prevention.
