Chief Rabbi David Lau, who serves as president of the Great Court, strongly opposes the conversion outline, which was revealed in "Israel Today."
In a statement issued this morning (Thursday), he made it clear that he would fight him in any way he could, and called on the rabbis to work together to prevent the outline from being observed.
"The details of the proposed outline include extensive destruction and severe damage to the state conversion system. The implementation of the outline will be a spiritual disaster and a severe damage to the Judaism of the State of Israel," the chief rabbi said.
"The current state conversion system operates with dedication and enlightenment and the conversion judges do a sacred work and therefore the proposals to establish 'Meiri Panim' conversion units are aimed only at breaking the halakhah. "The rabbis of Israel in Israel and around the world."
"The president of the tribunal together with the rabbis and judges of Israel will fight vigorously against this dangerous initiative by all means and calls on everyone who can to stop the outline and prevent its implementation," read a statement issued by the chief rabbi.
