The antibody level of the new crown vaccine will decline over time. In order to understand the factors related to antibody changes, the research team recruited 138 adults to participate in the study from April to August this year, all of which have been vaccinated with two doses of the new crown vaccine.

Participants are aged between 18 and 67 years old. Before vaccination and one month after vaccination, blood and stool samples were provided for analysis to measure antibody levels and intestinal microbiota.

It was found that more than half of the people who received the KX vaccine failed to achieve the expected antibody level, which is closely related to the lack of "Bifidobacterium adolescentis" in the intestines.

The group vaccinated with Forbitux also had a similar situation. People who lacked two types of bacteria including Bifidobacterium adolescentis had lower levels of antibodies after vaccination.

Studies have shown that regulating the intestinal microecology will become a new direction to improve the effectiveness and safety of the new crown vaccine, which also means that supplementing with Bifidobacterium adolescentis can improve the effectiveness and protection of the vaccine.

The number of "Bifidobacterium adolescentis" in the human body will decrease with age, diet, stress and the use of antibiotics. This kind of probiotics cannot be supplemented through daily diet.

An earlier study by the CUHK team also found that 85% of 2,000 citizens lacked or even completely lost Bifidobacterium adolescentis in their intestines.

Professor Huang Xiujuan, deputy director of the Gut Microbiota Research Center of the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK, said that the study is the first time in the world that Bifidobacterium adolescentis has been demonstrated in the human body to play a key role in regulating the effectiveness of the new crown vaccine.

Although the side effects of Kexing vaccine are low, the effectiveness of producing antibodies is not as good as that of Fubitai vaccine. It is believed that the findings of this study will help improve the effectiveness of Kexing vaccine in the future.

Professor Chen Jialiang, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK and Director of the Intestinal Microbiota Research Center, said that an earlier study found that patients with COVID-19 developed antibodies faster after taking the microecological formula developed by CUHK. This study reflects the youth bifidus contained in the formula. Bacillus is the key to regulating the level of antibodies. It is believed that regulating the intestinal microecological potential will become a new direction to improve the effectiveness and safety of vaccines.
