Germany announced today (Thursday) that it will impose a blockade on citizens who are not vaccinated against the corona virus, due to the continued spread of the virus.
Outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel and his successor, Olaf Schultz, have announced new restrictions on the unvaccinated, who can only go to vital places such as supermarkets and bald houses, following talks with German provincial leaders.
"The situation in our country is dire," Merkel told reporters in Berlin.
She said the restrictions are a step of "national solidarity" due to the fear that hospitals will collapse under the burden of corona patients.
In addition, parliament will consider forcing citizens to get vaccinated against the virus starting in February - similar to neighboring Austria - given the high daily number of infections, which has again exceeded more than 70,000.
