The search engine celebrates 162 years since the birth of the influential French painter and his work "Sunday afternoon on the shores of the island of La Grande Chat"

On the 162nd anniversary of the birth of French painter Georges Serra, Google is dedicating its daily doodle to his work "Sunday Afternoon on the Shores of La Grand Chat Island."

Georges Serra worked on the masterpiece for two years and completed it when he was only 26, and in the history of art it is considered a work with which Serra began the neo-impressionist current, an avant-garde movement from the 19th century that changed the course of modern art.

Sera is considered a pioneer in the development of the technique known as "pointilism" which essentially covers the image with isolated dots and spots of color, so that in his work the dots finally unite into landscape shapes and figures without brushstroke and without any line.

He did a lot of drawing and developed a unique drawing style in Conte chalk stains on a thick, rough paper surface, which utilizes the clarity of the paper and its texture as a source of light and also to achieve a drawing texture.

Georges Serra was born on December 2, 1859 in Paris as the son of a prosperous family.

As a teenager he underwent formal artistic training, and later completed his education at the prestigious Fine Arts Institute.

In addition, he delved into the scientific study of color theory to develop the "pointillism" technique.

After working on many drafts on small boards, he finished in 1884 the masterpiece "Sunday Afternoon on the Shores of La Grande Chat Island".

Because of the systematicity and reliance in his work on classical relationships, Sera's paintings, despite being modern, look like carefully crafted antique paintings.

When he first displayed his pictures in an exhibition of the Impressionists they caused a scandal.

Another well-known creation of Sera is "La Grand Chat", named after a resort on the banks of the Hesse River.

Sera's life was short.

He died at the age of 32 and his only important successor was Scenic.

His life and art were immortalized in Stephen Sondheim's musical "Sunday at the Park with George" from 1983, which has won many productions around the world.
