The Temporary Agricultural Worker Program (PTAT) allows Canadian employers to hire temporary foreign agricultural workers for a maximum period of 8 months when Canadians and residents of the country are not available.
Among the tasks listed by the Canadian government, is the operation of agricultural machinery, the collection, handling and evaluation of raw materials, the planting and harvesting of crops, trees and other plants, as well as the care and handling of animals (other than fish) in order to obtain animal products for the market.
How to find a temporary job in the United States?
A person is eligible for the PTAT as long as they have been recruited by the government of their country of origin, have experience in the agriculture sector, are at least 21 years old, meet the profile required by the employer and are a citizen of a country eligible, says the Canadian government.
The participating countries of the PTAT are:
Mexico
Anguilla
Old and bearded
Barbados
Dominica
Grenada
Jamaica
Montserrat
St. Kitts-Nevis
St. Lucia
St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Trinidad and Tobago
How to participate as a Mexican
Each country has its own process for recruiting and selecting workers.
In the case of Mexico —which is the largest supplier of agricultural workers to the PTAT, according to the Mexican government— the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare in Mexico is in charge of recruiting and selecting workers.

According to the attention center of the National Employment Service (SNE) of Mexico, the day laborers will be assisted in all their procedures so that they obtain their passports, work permits, contract with the employer and air tickets.
The SNE told CNN that the minimum age to apply for a job under PTAT is 21 years old.
All documentation costs for the PTAT are covered by the National Employment Service.

For their part, employers must offer workers a minimum of 240 hours of work in a period of 6 weeks or less.
The workers will stay in Canada for periods of 4 to 8 months.
Those interested in joining the PTAT should call the free phone number 1877-496-2003 or go to the offices of the National Employment Services in their state.
Restrictions by covid-19
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all travelers 5 years of age or older must present proof with a negative COVID-19 test result in order to enter Canada.
The proof must be presented even if the person is fully vaccinated against covid-19.
However, fully vaccinated temporary foreign workers are exempt from quarantine and testing on the eighth day.
