Until the end, the suspense was total.

Even for candidates and their supporters unable to know who would be nominated by LR members.

At the end of the first round of the congress, the militants decided: Éric Ciotti (25.59%) and Valérie Pécresse (25%) are qualified for the second round of the ballot, as announced the president of the Republicans Christian Jacob from party headquarters.

Michel Barnier (23.93%), Xavier Bertrand (22.26%) and Philippe Juvin (3.13%) are therefore eliminated in the first round.

The two finalists have only a few hours to complete the negotiations between the two rounds and submit their profession of faith at 5 p.m. From Friday 8 a.m., it will be impossible for them to campaign until the close of the vote on Saturday at 2 p.m. In the process, Christian Jacob will announce the name of the right-wing presidential candidate. All five candidates have already pledged to support their future champion and campaign with and behind him. They are all supposed to meet on December 11 for a large rallying congress, in front of nearly 5,000 supporters, Porte de Versailles in Paris. A symbolic room for the right ... since the victorious campaign of Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007.

If the tenors of the Republicans have not publicly taken sides for a candidate - like Gérard Larcher, Laurent Wauquiez, François Baroin or Bruno Retailleau - all have already announced that they would get involved in the new campaign phase which opens next week.
