MTR Causeway Bay Station had a train door flying off, resulting in the interruption of close to three hours of service during work hours tonight (2nd). The train involved was moved off the track until about 8pm, and the trains gradually returned to normal.
The MTR train operation and local railway manager Huang Kunwei explained the incident. After preliminary investigation, it was suspected that a billboard in the platform tunnel was displaced and collided with the car door. , And check all related billboards for safety.
MTR also apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers by this incident.
Huang Kunwei said at the press conference that the incident occurred at about 6 pm tonight when a train on the Hong Kong Island Line bound for Kennedy Town was slowly entering the Causeway Bay Station Platform 2. The train had completely moved into the platform, and the MTR arranged for the passengers on the train to evacuate, and all passengers safely left the carriages within about 2 to 3 minutes.
After the initial inspection by the MTR, it was found that a billboard in the platform tunnel was damaged. It was suspected that the billboard was displaced and collided with the train door, causing an accident.
Afterwards, the MTR inspected the doors and temporarily secured the relevant billboards with adhesive tape and checked other billboards.
The train involved was later removed from the platform and moved to the side line of Admiralty Station. It will return to the Chai Wan Depot later tonight, pending inspection.
Huang Kunwei continued that the cause of the temporary accident is only preliminary. After the train is received tonight, the MTR will conduct a detailed investigation and check whether the billboards beside the platform involved are stable and safe.
