Supporting the seriously ill and dying as well as their relatives is no easy task anyway.

The pandemic, however, has made it even more difficult for the team at the “Hospice Association in Pfaffenwinkel”: It has to work under extreme conditions.

Club chairman Renate Dodell made this clear in her review at the general meeting.

Polling / district

- "Corona and lockdown as well as the associated requirements and restrictions have been a major problem for the hospice association in the Pfaffenwinkel since spring 2020," said a message from the association to the meeting. But it was possible that none of the people who received outpatient or inpatient care were alone when dying and it was always possible to say goodbye. “Our team can rightly be proud of that,” said Dodell. The association, based in Polling, is well positioned despite the pandemic, the message says.

In October it had 1151 members, 39 full-time employees, a good 160 volunteer hospice attendants and 17 volunteers who are training to become hospice attendants.

Since 2020, the outpatient hospice service team has consisted of eight coordinators under the leadership of Alexandra Meyer and Ulrike Unsinn.

Sister Angela Kirchensteiner relinquished the leadership, according to the announcement she will concentrate on training new hospice attendants and on caring for the sick.

In the past year, 126 guests were treated as inpatients

Managing director Steffen Röger took over the management of the hospice after Karlheinz Gaisbauer switched to outpatient service.

Barbara Rosengart remains the nursing manager.

According to Röger, 126 guests were hospitalized in the hospice in Polling Monastery in 2020.

They stayed there for an average of 26 days.

Visits from relatives were made possible at any time, according to the association.

Twelve guests were able to leave the hospice again.

Home visits were not possible due to the corona

In addition to the full-time employees, 37 volunteer hospice attendants helped on the ward, doing 2,203 working hours.

"We will continue to do everything in the future to avoid infections and to enable accompaniments and farewells," said Röger in view of the corona pandemic.

The hospice association's outpatient service suffered last year, as visits to home, nursing homes and hospitals were sometimes not possible.

“Nevertheless, coordinators and hospice attendants have always tried to maintain contacts, advise and accompany,” said Dodell.

According to Alexandra Meyer, the number of voluntary hours in the domestic sector fell from 7888 in 2019 due to corona to 5863 in the following year.

In 2020, the outpatient service team received 1,049 so-called hospice inquiries, 485 of which were for inpatient accommodation, whereby ultimately only 116 people could be admitted.

Dodell re-elected as chairperson

Renate Dodell from Weilheim, first chairwoman of the hospice association for almost eleven years, was re-elected in her office.

The new deputy chairman is Thomas Dorsch from Hohenpeißenberg.

He takes over this office from Reinhold Socher (Hohenpeißenberg), who has now been elected treasurer.

The new secretary is Margit Krauß from Penzberg.

As before, Anja Böhm (Weilheim), District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß, Angelika Klennert (Polling), Josef Steigenberger (Bernried) and Pastor Martin Weber (Polling) are members of the management team.

Georg Leis (Eberfing) is the new assessor.

The previous board members Isabel Fischer (secretary), Wolfgang Kastl (treasurer) and Hans Kummert (assessor) had not stood for election in the new elections.

Gaisbauer is now an honorary member

Karlheinz Gaisbauer is now an honorary member of the hospice association.

He helped set up the inpatient hospice and managed it for 17 years.

According to the association, he would have had to undergo extensive additional training to manage the planned larger hospice.

He decided not to do this and joined the training team in the outpatient service.

Elisabeth Hutter was honored at the general meeting for more than ten years of commitment in the administration of the association.

The full-time employee Sigrun Grendel-Neumeier has also worked for the association for over ten years.

Thanks were also given to Resi Wagner, who was a volunteer hospice attendant from 2007 to 2020.
