If a particular challenge does not interest Ralph Rangnick, he will let him • But if the 63-year-old German decides to come - probably something good is about to happen • Manchester United lines will wait for him at least until the middle of the month, but already his presence is felt • Ask Ronaldo

Ralph Rangnik will not stand tonight (Thursday, 22:15) on the lines of Manchester United, who will host Arsenal at Old Trafford.

The new German coach has not yet received his work visa, and will likely not receive it until the middle of the month, so Michael Carrick will once again be the man to guide the Red Devils in the important game against the Gunners.

Still, United are already talking in terms of a new era set in motion tonight.

It is not customary to use such words when a new coach arrives in the middle of a season, and until the end of a season only, but in fact his presence produces a feeling that here begins a deep, serious and long-term process.

Although over the years he has coached several teams for a short period of time, the two projects most identified with him are those at Hoffenheim and BR Leipzig.

In both cases, less as a coach and more as a professional manager with all his might, the 63-year-old German was given complete freedom to implement his teachings and ideas in teams set up from scratch and striving to succeed quickly.

He received unlimited professional powers, promoted young players, created a football infrastructure as he saw fit - and the successes were great and impressive.

In Hoffenheim and Leipzig, Rangnick created the image that has accompanied him ever since and brought him up to the position of special adviser to Locomotive Moscow at the beginning of this season: ideologue and projector.

If the idea presented to him interests him enough, he comes.

And when it comes - you can expect a revolution.

So is United really on the verge of a revolution?

That's the big question.

The answer of course lies in how much freedom of action Rangnick will get in the role of interim coach of the Red Devils, and even more in the role of the consultant he will fill in the two years that will come at the end of the current season.

There is no doubt about one thing - it is a very intriguing match.

"He changed the way I watch football, and was one of those who convinced me to be a coach," said Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, who played under him in Germany, when it became known about Rangnik's appointment as United coach.

"He is a very experienced manager," added Liverpool player Jurgen Klopp, joking: "And unfortunately he is coming to England."

Will fill in the blanks

Anyone who knows or has worked alongside Rangnik tells of a footballer of his stature and above, obsessive, loyal to the pressure game "The Gagenging", and one who prefers patterns and arrays over victories and titles.

On the other hand, those numbers who know him, he has a great aversion to players with inflated egos and huge adolescent stars.

And at United, he has just one like that.

Therefore, the issue of Cristiano Ronaldo will be - and already is - the focus of the German term.

Just last year Rangnik said he is not interested in working with players like Zlatan because they are too old, and he is one who is looking for depth, while complimenting the Atlanta project as an example of a club that does not lean on stars.

Moreover, in 2016 Ronaldo and Leo Messi claimed to be too old, and the Portuguese was then 31. Today Ronaldo is 36, and the fact that he started the game against Chelsea this weekend on the bench hinted that Rangnick had already started working remotely.

Although all those involved denied the matter, it may be necessary to get used to such things in a group led by Ralph Rangnik.

For him, according to what he says and according to what his relatives say, there is no preference for the stars, and there is a need for disciplined players who are able to execute the pressure game.

Rangnick is total in his approach, and if United are indeed looking for someone to buy her a little more depth, he may be the man for her.

"The staff is full of talent, and has a combination of young people and experienced players," the new coach told the club's website. "In the next six months all my efforts will be directed at trying to make them better individually, and especially as a team."

As much as this appointment feels crooked and does not match the coach's resume versus the status of the team he has reached, there is an impression that the potential certainly exists.

Rangnick - so his history teaches - can give United things it is currently lacking: order, discipline, organization and long-term thought.

Now it remains to be seen how much United are willing to give him.
