Police announced today (Thursday) that they have deciphered the investigation into the abduction and murder of the boy Nissim Sheetrit from about 35 years ago. A prosecutor's statement was filed today by the prosecution against another suspect, a 70-year-old Jerusalem resident, for his involvement in the murder, and tomorrow indictments are expected to be filed against two suspects in the act. In addition, the suspect in the murder of Avi Edri, a yeshiva director in Jerusalem whose body was found lying in the woods, was released this evening under house arrest for five days.

The police investigation into the case resumed two years ago, and recently the investigators of the Jerusalem Police Department managed to achieve a significant breakthrough in the investigation. Three are being held in custody, after Berland, his son-in-law and the mayor were released.

Additional people involved who were arrested and questioned on suspicion of involvement in the murder and abduction were at this stage sent to house arrest with restrictive conditions, as the evidence gathered about them indicates offenses that were statute-barred.

Avi Edri's family said they were "shocked and saddened by the helplessness of the prosecution and the police, who are unable to bring to justice our loved ones' heinous killers due to the statute of limitations."

In an outrageous attack on the decision to release those involved under house arrest, she said it was a "day of mourning for the state and justice."

The Edri family added that they think those involved should be imprisoned, and pledged that they will act "without you bringing the humble killers to justice."

In January 1986, Nissim Sheetrit, a 17-year-old ultra-Orthodox young man, disappeared after arranging to meet Mike, a man who had met Sheetrit and his friends a week earlier.

According to testimonies and publications at the time, Sheetrit had been violently attacked earlier by the modesty guards operating at the time on the Haredi street.

Attempts over the years to locate Mike, the anonymous man, have stalled.

Avi Edri's body was found in 1990. Edri was the director of a yeshiva in Jerusalem and his body was found lying in the woods.
