Brussels-Sana

The European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ACDC) warned today that the Omicron mutant could cause more than half of Europe's coronavirus infections over the next few months.

"Based on mathematical models conducted by the center, there are indications that Omicron may cause more than half of the injuries in the European Union and the European Economic Area within a few months," the Italian Aki news agency quoted the Stockholm-based center as saying in a document.

According to the European Center, preliminary data from South Africa indicates that the Omicron mutant has a significant advantage over the Delta mutant.

The center indicated that the Omicron cases in Europe have so far reached 70 cases in 13 countries.

The report supports preliminary information about the very high transmissibility of Omicron, which exceeds even that of the Delta strain, which before the emergence of Omicron was considered the most transmissible of the major strains of the Corona virus.
