18 solar power plants in As-Suwayda

Many investors go to establish solar power plants in As-Suwayda Governorate, believing in the economic feasibility achieved from selling the electricity produced from them.

These stations are connected, according to those concerned in the General Company for Electricity of As-Suwayda, to the electrical network, and their owners are licensed for a period of 25 years in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Law, and production is purchased from them at encouraging prices.

According to the General Director of the General Company for Suwayda Electricity, Eng. Nidal Nofal, the total number of solar power plants in the governorate, which entered the investment, has reached 18 stations with a total capacity of 2,230 kilowatts. Habran and two stations in Shaqrawiyah and one station in each of the cities of As-Suwayda, Salkhad, and in the towns and villages of Arman, Al-Quraya, Najran, Khalkhala, Hawt, Raymah Al-Lahf, Umm Al-Zaytoun, Al-Raha and Rasas.

Nofal indicated that the capacities of the invested stations range between 30 and 900 kilowatts, pointing out that there are also 4 stations in the city of As-Suwayda and the towns of Al-Quraya, Salim and Ateel, with a total capacity of 600 kilowatts, as part of the trend towards renewable energy stations, which constitute an important and necessary tributary to the electrical network.

Nofal indicated that the company provides all kinds of facilities to investors in this field and encourages its establishment in the various regions of the governorate, based on its importance and the added value it achieves.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Blue Planet Company for Energy Alternatives in Sweida, Dr. Samer Mazyad Alwan, indicated that the issuance of Decree 32 of 2021, which included the amendment of Article 28 of Electricity Law No. 32 of 2010, reflects the government’s interest in the electricity sector and its quest to reduce the difference between production and consumption by encouraging investors to set up stations Generation of renewable energies, whether photovoltaic, wind or biomass, with capacities exceeding 10 megawatts, reaching 100 megawatts, exceeding 300 megawatts and more.

Alwan explained that the company, which had previously established several stations in As-Suwayda, the largest of which was the “Al-Ajama” station in the village of Hawt in the southern countryside of As-Suwayda, with a capacity of about 1 megawatt to feed the wells of the so-called Beka cell. A wind photovoltaic hybrid farm with a capacity of 211 MW.
