From Wednesday, 2G will apply in stores.

The chairwoman of the Active City sees this as a serious setback for Freising businesses.

Freising

- "Tart and bitter" are the new, stricter corona requirements for retail, says Manuela Paparizos.

The chairwoman of the Active City Freising and owner of the travel market explains in an FT interview why she and many colleagues are still for 2G in their stores.

Ms. Paparizos, with a few exceptions, 2G will apply in stores from Wednesday.

What is the mood like among business people in the Freising city center?

The dealers and restaurateurs I spoke to see this regulation as correct and important.

The tenor is: it is high time the fourth wave was broken.

At the same time, it's a tough setback for us.

Many business owners struggled to keep their staff in the pandemic or have only just hired them again.

It is therefore bitter and bitter that now - after 18 months without planning security - the next difficult turning point will come.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

It's also a major setback for the holiday season, isn't it?

We hope, of course, that the mood for shopping doesn't get too bad.

We have beautifully decorated the city center and planned small events to bring the magic of Christmas into the city.

But a normal Christmas business should still not be possible.

"We didn't have to get to this point"

Nevertheless: 2G in retail is better than a lockdown.

Yes, but the development is still sad because we didn't have to get to that point.

Are you alluding to the large vaccination pick?

My opinion is: As an individual, it must be clear to one that, despite all the individual freedom that is worthy of protection, one is interwoven in many ways with society as a whole.

And of course this collective decision has an impact on a large part of the population.

We all pay the price, and that's why I think 2G is right.

But: it is painful.

Solidarity of the citizens with the dealers is "fantastic"

Now, 2G does not apply to everyday shops such as bakers, butchers or pharmacists.

Does this better position towards others lead to a wedge in the inner city?

No.

There is a lack of understanding for some ministerial decisions, for example in relation to supermarkets.

They should only be allowed to sell everyday goods and not frying pans, leggings or hats.

Above all, however, I experience great solidarity among retailers.

And what about the solidarity of the citizens?

It's been fantastic during the whole Corona period.

You can see this in the shopping vouchers for the Active City, which can now be redeemed at almost 70 points of contact.

People tell us very explicitly that by buying the vouchers they are supporting our retail trade in the city and wanting to keep the stakeholders in the pipeline.

There are a lot of Freising people, many from outside, who have relatives or friends in Freising and who order the voucher by email.

But there are also municipalities, public institutions and companies that buy the shopping vouchers in large numbers for their employees.

It's an incredibly great story.
