Watch the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond \ Shining Pearl trailer

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (Nintendo)

For most children in the late 1990s, Pokemon's TV series and gameboy games made the world of monster collectors a real phenomenon, and who would have believed that 25 years after the launch of the first game, Nintendo would already count 15 different games in the series, 20 movies, and countless different seasons In them Fire Kacham the immortal child will want to be the greatest of them all, and capture them all (Pokemon!).

As a kid I got to play the first three generations of the hugely popular game series, my first game was Pokemon Red, from there I evolved into Pokemon Crystal (and I think the best in the series to date), and the game I burned the most hours playing (in my opinion to date) was Pokemon Emerald. , Due to the fact that I did not have a Nintendo DS console, I did not get to know the fourth, and fifth generation games of the series.

So probably because of everything I wrote down here you can guess that I was quite expecting a novelty for the games of the province of Sino, and as a fan of the series of games from its earliest days, it is for me a real completion of gaps.

So after 30 hours of playing Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, I can say that while I enjoyed my adventure in Sino Province, after all the progress we've seen in previous games in the series, it's still hard for me not to wonder if it's a miss or an opportunity, despite my enjoyment?

Plot and the game world

Like every game in the series I was not surprised to find that this time too I play the character of Elijah the prophet (or any other prophet of your choice who will bring-world-peace-and-fulfill-ancient-prophecy, Jesus) in the body of a 10-year-old boy (or girl, of your choice) Who goes for a walk with his good friend (in my case, I called him Kaki, no. I'm 25), and after a "surprising" encounter with wild Pokemon, I chose my first Pokemon (Chimcher. I always choose fire) and from there I set out on an adventure to become a champion Of the county.

Unlike the previous games in the series, and the games I got to play (Generations 6 and 7, the great innovations of Ruby and Sapphire Lets Go Pikachu, and of course Sword and Shield) I think Sino's game world is pretty cool.

The whole county is built as an envelope to the huge and snowy Mount Cornet, and when we encounter a casual battle across the county, we can always notice a mountain jutting out in our background, and its presence really adds to the personality of the county.

Of course this time too throughout our adventure, the 10-year-old Messiah who will be embodied will have to deal with some criminal organization that has set itself the goal of using the province's legendary Pokemon to take over the world, and this time it's a Galactic team. I think if we put the Galactic team and compare it to the evil teams that preceded it in the series, I think it's the team that interested me the least, and the decision on the game's graphics engine, did not contribute at all to the feeling, and I will expand on that later.

One of the most important things in any game in the game series, is of course the 150 unique Pokemon for the province, and I must say, that the province of Sino is in my opinion one of the best in the series.

Apart from the conspicuous disadvantage of dragon-type Pokemon and especially fire (most of them are legendary dragon-type, so finally the situation with this breed is quite balanced, unlike fire) -7 are the weakest in the series in my opinion).

Although there is reliance on some Pokemon from previous editions in the series, in practice we get about 120 to 130 "new" Pokemon in the fourth generation.

Although I thought Sino was presenting a great game world, one of the things that slightly prevented him from flourishing completely was the decision on the game's artistic direction style.

Or in short, the graphics.

Because this is the first game in the main Pokemon game series that is not developed by the main company (Gamefreak) but is a development of a lesser known and small company called ILCA.

ILCA decided not only to stick very closely to the original in everything related to the plot, gameplay elements, and the type of Pokemon that exist in the game, but also to play on the nostalgia aspect when it comes to how the game looks when we move from place to place.

Throughout the game, when we are protesting for a battle scene, the game camera moves to a state where it follows the player from above, in exactly the same way as all the old games in the series.

A visual style that will not suit everyone

In addition to the element of the game camera, the artistic direction gambled on in ILCA is the "chibi" style in which all the characters look like such weird and cute pop dolls, but in my opinion this is the weakest element in the game, which slightly detracts from the "wow" deterrent effect. Or can be dangerous enemies and certain Pokemon.

This is especially evident in situations we would like to hang out with our new legendary Pokemon, and it looks exactly the same as the dimensions of our characters in the game. And believe me, after three days of chasing after Shaney Dialga, I was very discouraged to see him so unimaginable. Even when we meet Cyrus, the leader of the Galactic team, he will just look like a balding boy with very strange cheekbones.

Precisely when we get into battle scenes with enemies or wild Pokemon, this is the most beautiful game in the series so far in my opinion.

This is the first Pokemon game in years that does not suffer from problems of declines in the frames, the animations and animations of the Pokemon and their moves look better than ever, and everything just looks fun, colorful and beautiful to the eye.

Given that the whole style sits less, this is a miss in my opinion.

Unnecessarily nostalgic?

ILCA's reliance on the nostalgic aspect of the game leads me to the biggest problem I've had with the game, and that is a return to random encounters. After the previous games in the series (and the newest chronologically), Sword \ Shield, I thought I finally told Salamat to random encounters with geodes and Zubats once and for all. So you can probably guess the magnitude of my disappointment when I found out that throughout my 40 hours of play I had to put up with unnecessary encounters with Pokemon I've already encountered or ones I've already caught and / or ones that just hinder me on my way to a certain point.

One of the most important elements in such a long series of games, which does not tend to reinvent the wheel, is the improvement of game conditions, and when Sword \ Shield made available to players the ability to choose which Pokemon to fight, and which to avoid encountering, Game Freak really improved everything in my opinion As for the "catch everyone" element.

While the nostalgia effect can have a lot of benefits, but when the pursuit of nostalgia leads me to lose one of the significant benefits I got to recognize as the game series progressed, it's pretty hard for me to go back and justify the game developers' decision.

This is in my opinion a real miss, because when we look at one of the new elements that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have introduced, the Secret underground, where we do enjoy the ability to see all the Pokemon that are inside the room we are in.

It contributed a lot to my sense of confusion and why not incorporate this feature already throughout the game map?

A fun and challenging post-game experience

Despite all the bad points I mentioned about the regression the games bring with them, the new games in the series feature the best post-game stage (after we became champions, and kind of finished the game) of the series for years, and along the way give us the option to keep our Pokemon pool With a host of pretty cool legendary Pokemon.

Plus, I think this is a game that presents the biggest challenge when it comes to the Pokemon League at the end of the game.

I usually find myself really effortless throughout all the Pokemon games I have played in light of the years, but the Pokemon League shown here as a whole, (Cynthia the Champion as an individual) posed the biggest challenge I was able to enjoy, which contributed to my sense of satisfaction and enjoyment when I finally won it. After 30 resuscitations of my Pokemon, and one Garchump the name will be bloodied.

In conclusion

The new Pokemon games Brilliant Diamond \ Shining Pearl are quite fun games that fans of the series will really enjoy burning for dozens of hours.

Sino's play is rich in great Pokemon, quite challenging enemies and the cool new underground system, and a host of legendary Pokemon that can be captured.

Unfortunately, I could not ignore the fact that these are innovations that in relation to the previous games in the series do a kind of regression and go back, despite the fact that they are innovations.

The artistic style was a bit weird for my taste and I do not think anyone will connect with it, but overall it is another success story of the excellent game series, which leaves a bit of a side effect of feeling missed.
