Indictments were filed today (Friday) in the Jerusalem District Court against Baruch Sharvit and another person, whose identities are banned from publication, for their involvement in the abduction and murder of the boy Nissim Sheetrit about 35 years ago. The charge against the two is murder while committing an offense.

The Jerusalem District Attorney's Office requested an extension of the detention of the person whose identity is prohibited from publication until the end of the legal proceedings against him. The request for an extension of his detention states that "the serious acts attributed to the respondent indicate his danger to the public despite the time that has elapsed since the murder attributed to him." It was stated that the kidnapping and murder incident was multi-stage and multi-participant, which he described as "extremely complex and cruel, which was intended to impose on the lifestyle of the respondent and his accomplices on the deceased and the public". Thus, the court believes that his release would endanger public safety.

The second defendant is Baruch Sharvit, who was a former driver of the Beehive band and joined the Shuvu Banim community in the 1980s.

Over the years he worked as a mezuzah and tefillin writer and in recent years has been less involved in the community, but has remained loyal to Berland to this day.

According to the indictment, in the second part of the incident in which Sheetrit was killed in the Eshtaol forest, other people unknown to the prosecution were present.

The police investigation into the case resumed two years ago, and recently the investigators of the Jerusalem Police Department managed to achieve a significant breakthrough in the investigation.

Three are being held in custody, after Berland, his son-in-law and the mayor were released.

Yesterday, the prosecutor's office filed a prosecutor's statement against a 70-year-old Jerusalem resident, in connection with his murder.

The suspect in the murder of Avi Edri, the director of a yeshiva in Jerusalem whose body was found lying in the forest, was released yesterday under house arrest for five days.

Additional people involved who were arrested and questioned on suspicion of involvement in the murder and abduction were at this stage sent to house arrest with restrictive conditions, as the evidence gathered about them indicates offenses that were statute-barred.

In January 1986, Nissim Sheetrit, a 17-year-old ultra-Orthodox young man, disappeared after arranging to meet Mike, a man who had met Sheetrit and his friends a week earlier.

According to testimonies and publications at the time, Sheetrit had been violently attacked earlier by the modesty guards operating at the time on the Haredi street.

Attempts over the years to locate Mike, the anonymous man, have stalled.

Avi Edri was the director of a yeshiva in Jerusalem.

His body was found lying in the woods in 1990.
