The epidemic rebound in France is also expressed by the increase in cases among students. But the new protocol artificially reduces class closures.

The number of classes closed because of Covid-19 this week stands at 4,578, or 0.9% of classes in the country, down by half from the previous week due to a new protocol, according to figures communicated Friday, December 3 by the Ministry of National Education.

Since November 29, there has been no class closure in primary schools from the first case of Covid detected in a student.

Only those who test positive are isolated.

In detail, 33,550 cases were confirmed this week among students (or 0.27% of total students) and 2,145 among staff.

The 6th encouraged to do two self-tests per week

The previous week, there were 21,976 cases of Covid among students and 1,562 among staff.

Nationally, this resulted in the closure of 4,578 classes, up from 8,890 the previous week.

The new procedures also explain an increase in saliva tests performed: 227,717 between 22 and 29 November, against 190,487 the previous week.

The 6th grade students have been encouraged since Monday to carry out two self-tests per week, the ministry justifying this measure by the fact that the children in these classes are under 12 years old and are not vaccinated.

A new wave of Covid-19 is affecting France.

As of Thursday, 48,416 cases were identified, for a daily 7-day average of 36,700, against less than 6,000 a month earlier.
