Daraa-Sana
The pace of barley cultivation accelerated in Daraa after the recent rains, as the total cultivated areas for the current season reached 14,150 hectares.
The director of Daraa Agriculture Bassam al-Hashish told SANA reporter that the planned area for the barley crop in the current season is 27 thousand hectares, and the implementation rate is about 52.4 percent, indicating that agriculture is concentrated in the third and fourth settlement areas.
Al-Hashish explained that the farmers of Daraa began cultivating rain-fed and irrigated wheat, as the area planted in irrigated reached 530 hectares out of the planned area of 9257 hectares, and in rain-fed 765 hectares out of 80,000 hectares, stressing that the Directorate is working to secure the requirements of agricultural production, especially fuels.
The percentage of cultivation of irrigated wheat and barley in Daraa last season exceeded 100 percent, while the percentage of cultivation of rain-fed wheat reached 98.6 percent.
