(CNN in Spanish) -

Diego Luna presents the second chapter of the second season of the series "Pan y Circo" where he sits with prominent figures to analyze and reflect on various issues.

In the second episode, "Crisis of democracy", the actor, producer and director will be in charge of cooking and hosting these conversations on fundamental issues for society.

Diego Luna spoke with Zona Pop about this second episode in a video call from Madrid, Spain.

Diego, why do an episode about democracy?

"I began to question this system that suddenly gives rise to illusions and setbacks. That requires a deep analysis of what our civic function is. What is democracy and how can we be part of it. How healthy or how healthy is this system today in day".

He adds that we all need to get involved: "What happens to these characters who arrive by popular election to a position where power later makes them end up on the other side? It's interesting because I feel that I am part of a very politicized generation in terms of of the desire to have an impact on this reality and to get involved. To reflect on democracy is to reflect on what we are doing and what we are not doing. "

Diego Luna: "I feel hurt as a citizen"

Pop Zone

Do you think fear is the greatest and worst enemy that democracy can have?

Diego Luna

"Fear, among other things. Inequality, violence and apathy too. Lack of compassion. There are many risks. And as is clear after watching the episode of 'Pan y Circo'. It is not a perfect system , but it is the one we have and at least we should learn to use it.

Pop Zone You

mention at some point during the episode that you are hurt as a citizen.

What hurt you the most?

Diego Luna

"Well, sometimes I feel that the citizen is welcome at election time and then what is expected ... How to say it? What is expected after your participation is total devotion. And that is completely Wrong. Citizenship is exercised every day and citizenship has to be critical, it must question and it has to demand accountability. "

"They ask us for a position completely based on apathy. Do not get involved because you have already decided. When deciding is accompanied by that responsibility to get involved. That is something that worries me. As I say in the program, I would like to live in a society where opinion of citizenship should have a profound impact and it does not seem to be the case. It seems that citizenship is only an electoral tool, and it is very dangerous. "

Winner of two Daytime Emmys

“Pan y Circo” is a series created by Diego Luna and in 2021 it was recognized with two Daytime Emmy Awards for Best Entertainment Program in Spanish and Outstanding Talent in a Daytime Program in Spanish.

"I'm happy for what it represents, because all this started as a very abstract idea, difficult to see, not to understand where it was going to take us and as the program was happening, to all of us who make 'Pan y Circo 'He ended up transforming us in a very profound way, "says the film and series actor.

"Having a recognition like the Daytime Emmy is the certainty that it is not only important to us and to us. It means that we did something that has a meaning that an audience has and luckily they have the trust of Amazon and that they continue to support us, giving us full freedom to do so ", he concludes.

The first two episodes of the series can be seen through Amazon Prime.

The other two episodes will be published in 2022, with no release date yet.
