The United States and European powers - Britain, France and Germany - have rejected Iran's opening proposal to lift sanctions and limit the nuclear program presented at talks in Vienna this week, according to a European diplomat from one of the European powers

. The European diplomat, the first draft on the removal of sanctions, was extreme and maximalist and the Iranians expanded their demand for the removal of sanctions compared to the negotiations for the draft agreement reached with the Rouhani government in June.

The second draft of measures to restrict the Iranian nuclear program was no less extreme.

The European diplomat noted that the Iranians had backtracked on all the compromises they had agreed to in the draft agreement reached with the Rouhani government in June and expressed readiness to take a smaller number of steps to limit their nuclear program.

The European diplomat noted that representatives of Britain, France and Germany made it clear to the Iranians that their proposal was neither serious nor acceptable and asked them to return to consultations in Tehran, convey this message to the Iranian leadership and return with a reply.

The round of talks that began on Monday in Vienna is expected to end this afternoon with a joint meeting of Iranian representatives with representatives from the European Union, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China.

Immediately afterwards, all negotiating teams will return to their capitals. The European diplomat noted that another round of talks is expected to convene in Vienna next week to hear the Iranian answers.
