The Air Force commander today (Friday) ordered a curfew of flights in the F-15, for non-operational flights.

This, after during a routine training flight of reserve air crews, one of the fighters noticed a malfunction in the right wheel of the aircraft, which did not go down as required.

The crew attempted to deal with the malfunction and after not being addressed, performed a complex emergency landing procedure that included connecting the aircraft hook to the cable on the runway, and eventually landed the aircraft on two of its three wheels.

The team reported to the base in the south of the country about the incident and medical and rescue teams rushed to the scene, and evacuated the uninjured fighters to the hospital for general examinations.

The aircraft, an F-15 from Squadron 69, was damaged and taken for questioning and maintenance.

The incident is being investigated, and this is the first time such a malfunction has occurred in the F-15.

A similar mishap occurred just last week - when one of the air crews looked away and did not notice that he had lost altitude and approached the ground, during a workshop to deal with air and ground threats in the south of the country.

The navigator who was with him recognized the lowering, alerted and pulled the plane upwards.

The pilot joined in this action and following the quick and professional identification, they were both out of danger.

Following the incident, the workshop was stopped and the commander of the Air Force decided to stop training the corps.

About a year ago, a safety incident occurred that ended in disaster when 42-year-old Itai Zeiden, a reserve fighter pilot from Kibbutz Shoval, and 19-year-old Lihu Ben-Besa, a pilot and resident of Rishon Lezion, were killed in a Negev Air Force training plane crash.
