Parashat Makatz: How does the leadership of Judah, from which the monarchy in Israel will emerge, inspire the spirit of the IDF, the code of ethics of the Israel Defense Forces?

Shabbat Hanukkah and Parashat Makatz are an important basis for understanding the Jewish tradition, which sanctifies the value of life and is an important source of the "IDF spirit."

Parashat Makatz tells of a heavy famine that befalls the area, just as Yosef deciphered when he solved his dreams for Pharaoh, and here is his brother who sold him 22 years ago standing before him.

Joseph accuses them of espionage, forbids Shimon and sets conditions for their return to Egypt - "and bring your little brother to me and believe your words and you will not die."

Upon their return to their father Jacob, Reuben hurries to take the initiative and seeks to return immediately with Benjamin to Egypt.

Reuben, who had previously demonstrated poor judgment when he slept with Bilha his father's mistress, seems to be demonstrating here too a lack of understanding about the responsibility placed on the shoulders of a leader.

Reuben declares, "You two sons of Tammit if we do not bring you," and is portrayed as a man who on the one hand jumps in the head and is ready to carry out the task, but on the other hand does not take responsibility for its failure and blame others (his sons), disregarding the sanctity of life.

In his words, Judah emphasizes in his words to Jacob the value of the mutual guarantee and responsibility of the leader:

He is also faithful to his word, and when Joseph seeks to ban Benjamin and release the brothers, he will declare:

Parshas Maktz is almost always connected to Shabbat Hanukkah.

The leadership of Matityahu the Hasmonean from the locality of Modi'in was also revolutionary, and placed the value of the sanctity of life first.

The book of Maccabees 1 tells us that Jews who kept their faith during the decrees of Antiochus did not fight on the Sabbath, and thus were condemned.

Matityahu understands that he must renew a great renewal and place the value of the sanctity of life above the sanctity of the Sabbath, and renew the rule that is so well known and established in the Jewish consciousness: "Supervision of the soul rejects the Sabbath."

It is no wonder that the leadership of Judah, from which the monarchy in Israel will emerge, and the leadership of Matityahu, from whom the monarchy and political independence for the Jewish people will also emerge, are an inspiration to the spirit of the IDF, the code of ethics of the Israel Defense Forces.

A spirit that draws on the tradition of the Jewish people for generations, and emphasizes the sanctity of human life.

Treasure, words: consistent

"And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears of grain came up in one basket full of goodness" (Genesis 21:22).

The abundant crops The crop, seven crops in one stalk, symbolize according to Joseph the seven good years to come.

Hebrew adopted the image and gave it a new meaning.

When things are in line - that is, they get along with each other and there is no contradiction.

When the witness says in court things that are inconsistent with what he said in the interrogation, then there is a problem here.
