Anyone waiting for the result of a PCR test for the coronavirus must usually remain in quarantine until then.

But not everyone adheres to it, as doctors from Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen report.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

- It is currently part of everyday life in medical practices: PCR tests for the coronavirus are carried out there every day - and some of them are positive every day.

When the doctors then want to inform those affected about their infection, they find that they are frustrated: Instead of waiting at home for the test result as prescribed, the person cannot be reached, but out and about.

Atzt complains: When he calls Corona-Positives, they are often not at home

The Lenggries general practitioner Dr. Rolf Spieß again and again. On average, he takes around 15 to 20 smears for PCR tests in his practice in the mornings. “The driver comes at lunchtime and brings the samples to the laboratory,” he reports. He always tells the patient: "Until the result is available, you have to stay in quarantine at home."

The findings from the laboratory would then usually be available to him on the evening of the same day or the following morning. "A good half are positive," says Dr. Pike. At the same time, the laboratory informs the health department about positive tests. The family doctor immediately clamped on the phone to notify his patients. “You'd think they'd be easy to get to in quarantine. But that's not the case with around 25 percent, ”Spieß wonders. This not only means that it takes the doctor unnecessarily long to call people. For him it is primarily about one thing: “Corona-positives run around outside and can infect others.” He keeps hearing from these patients that they “still had something to do”. From his colleagues in other medical practices he had learned thatthat the experiences are the same everywhere.

After a positive rapid test, you have to be in quarantine until the PCR result is available

Dr.

Spike that such behavior is a violation of the rules.

"In the event of a positive rapid test carried out by a third party, you absolutely have to go into isolation and are not allowed to do anything else - except to do a confirmatory PCR test," explains District Office spokeswoman Marlis Peischer.

"Only when this is negative can you leave the quarantine."

The same applies if the doctor does a PCR test to rule out an infection with the coronavirus based on symptoms.

Then it is mandatory: stay at home until you find out the result.

"If you have a positive self-test, you should do the same."

In the case of corona infection: The quarantine obligation does not only apply if the health department expressly orders it

If the PCR test detects an infection, it is even more important to stay in isolation, "regardless of the symptoms," explains Peischer. This obligation also applies if the health department has not yet contacted the patient and has explicitly ordered the isolation. Everyone affected will be called by the health department to discuss how to proceed. "Due to the still very high number of cases, however, this can still take four to six days," admits Peischer. However, the health department has "massively strengthened its staff so that the periods become shorter". Personal responsibility is essential for combating the pandemic, says Peischer. Unfortunately, it happens again and again that infected people violate the obligation to isolate themselves. That could be obvious, for example, when the health department calls the person and a telltale background noise can be heard in the background, à la: "Second checkout, please!"

"Anyone who does not adhere to it and does not seem to be isolated is committing an administrative offense," said Peischer.

"If a procedure is initiated, it can possibly be concluded with a fine."
