(CNN Spanish) -
The Panamanian authorities seized more than US $ 10 million during raids that occurred in the framework of the so-called Operation Fisher, which seeks to dismantle an alleged criminal organization linked to the Gulf Clan, the country's Public Ministry reported in a statement.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the money would correspond to that organization, which was not identified, and was in three hiding places of a residence in Nueva Providencia, Colón province, in the Atlantic zone of Panama.
The authorities reported that so far they have arrested 56 people, 46 men and 10 women, and have seized 38 vehicles, mostly high-end, and 10 firearms.
They seize 12 tons of cocaine in Colombia, which would be worth US $ 300 million
The Public Ministry did not reveal the identities of the detainees, who were brought before a guarantee judge on Thursday to legalize the arrests, formulate charges and apply precautionary measures.
According to the Public Ministry, Operation Fisher began in February 2020 and sought to dismantle the alleged criminal organization linked to the Gulf Clan, which, according to this version, uses the Panamanian Caribbean coast to receive, store, guard and transport large quantities of drugs from Colombia.
