The Council of Europe has initiated criminal proceedings against Turkey because of the ongoing imprisonment of the Turkish cultural promoter and human rights activist Osman Kavala.

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg voted for the initiation of the procedure, as the body announced.
