YouTube: the surprises of the 2021 list of the most viewed videos in France

2021-12-03T08:12:53.877Z

While iconic YouTubers are still popular, a new generation is gradually making its mark on the market.

YouTube has just unveiled its figures for 2021, a favorable year for the video platform.

According to Médiamétrie, more than 40 million French people watched a video on the site in March 2021 and spent an average of 24 minutes per day.

A large audience that directly benefits content creators.

Today, 450 channels have more than a million subscribers, against 360 in 2020. Channels with more than 100,000 subscribers have, for their part, increased by 20% to reach 4,500 in France.

Challenges and parodies in the spotlight

Among the most watched content, entertainment is doing well. The duo Mcfly and Carlito, alias David Coscas and Raphaël Carlier, figure in first place for the most viewed videos in France with “

Je me souviens

 ”.

Released last February, their clip aimed to encourage respect for barrier gestures in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The goal was to exceed 10 million views in order to meet Emmanuel Macron and carry out an anecdotes competition at the Élysée.

Thanks to 16 million views, the pair achieved this goal, even organizing a rock concert in the presidential gardens.

In second position, it is Cyprien Iov who wins with his video "

Ads vs life 5

 ".

After four similar videos, this fifth part uses the same codes with new parodies on television commercials.

Among them, sketches on Herta's knackis, Lu's cracottes or Bosch dishwashers.

"

Currently, there are not many parodies on the Internet and I think this format comes out of the challenges that we usually see on the platform,

 " says Cyprien Iov.

He adds that

"it takes several weeks to achieve this result and a budget of nearly 40,000 euros

 ".

An investment that has paid off since 9 million people have viewed the video.

A new generation of YouTubers

If Cyprien and Mcfly and Carlito are the tenors of YouTube, a new generation is gaining more and more ground like Michou, 20 years old.

Far from the cabaret manager in the blue suit, the young man shoots on Pokémon or popular video games like Among Us. In one year, the creator has gained the most subscribers, from 5 million subscribers in 2020 to 6.7 million today.

Within his “

Croûton team

” as he calls it, another youngster took off this year, Inoxtag.

Followed by 4.5 million subscribers, he makes videos of challenges of all kinds, such as a giant hide-and-seek or "

the biggest blindfolded pillow battle in France

 ".

The two creators launched six years ago on the platform, when they were still only teenagers.

Beyond entertainment, rap prevails in music.

At the top of the podium is “

La Kiffance

” by artist Naps with over 105 million views.

For nine weeks, the title remained at the top of the Top artists in France.

He is thus ahead of “

Vroum Vroum

” by Moha K and its 99 million views.

Finally, in the third position is “

Petrouchka

” by Soso Maness and PLK with more than 92 million views.

Despite these numbers, all of these clips are still a long way from achieving the most viewed video on YouTube.

This is Baby Shark children's music, which is currently approaching ten billion views.
