After her resignation, the former SPD chairman Andrea Nahles largely withdrew from politics.

It should stay that way: According to "Bild am Sonntag" ("BamS"), no ministerial post is planned for them in the government of the designated Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).

According to this, she should become the new head of the Federal Employment Agency.

According to the newspaper, starting work would be April 1st at the latest.

Then the contract of incumbent Detlef Scheele expires.

However, there are still hurdles: the Board of Directors of the Federal Employment Agency has to elect Nahles, and the Federal Cabinet has to approve the change.

In response to a "BamS" request from an SPD employee, Nahles herself let it be known that she would not comment on all of the speculation on personnel over the past few days.

The newspaper quotes "a leading SPD member" as saying: "Andrea Nahles has signaled that she does not want to return to politics as a minister now."

According to information from "Bild am Sonntag", the SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach could become head of the Corona Expert Council in the Chancellery, which is supposed to meet once a week.

A top comrade to "BamS": "That would be a sensible occupation." Lauterbach is also acted as health minister, but since Scholz has promised to fill at least half of the cabinet with women, an SPD politician could take over the office for reasons of parity.

For more than a year, Nahles has headed the Federal Post and Telecommunications Agency, a sub-authority of the Ministry of Finance.

She was the SPD chairwoman until 2019.

However, the defeats in the European and Bremen elections put Nahles under pressure.

She resigned in June 2019.
