After having conquered the starred chefs and obtained a gold medal in 2016 at the Lépine competition, the Georgette, a half-spoon, half-fork cutlery, invented by a naturalist from Saint-Lizier (Ariège), will make its appearance in the student catering structures in France. Jean-Louis Orengo, its creator, won a call for tenders from the Center National des Oeuvres Universitaires et Scolaires (CNOUS), opening up a market of 2.7 million students. Each regional university center is independent and free to offer this strange cover in its academy, but an initial inventory of their needs estimates the first order at 40,000 Georgettes.

“What particularly pleases me with this market is that Cnous has grasped the ecological interest of the cutlery which will first be used for take-out, in order to reduce waste,” underlines Jean-Louis Orengo. It is important to change the environmental awareness of students. Almost 90% of meals can be eaten with the Georgette and it will allow you to discover the notion of the pleasure of eating, thanks to its functionalities ”.

With its sharp edge, it can cut fish or solid food, grab food with its four spades or even be suitable for soup.

The Crous will offer students the Georgette Unik which can act as a fork, spoon and teaspoon on its handle.

To cope with this large order, the Ariège business manager invested in August in new production equipment in the Portuguese factory where the Georgettes are manufactured.
