Australia announced today that the Omicron mutant has begun to spread in the country.
Reuters quoted the Australian authorities as saying that the infections with the Omicron mutant in Sydney had risen to 13, while the state of Queensland had detected a suspected case of the new mutant.
The Australian authorities are committed to the plan to reopen the economy in the hope that the new mutation will be less severe than the previous strains, but some state and regional governments have taken measures to tighten controls on their local borders.
