One person died and 41 others were injured as a result of the eruption of Semeru volcano in the Indonesian island of Java today.
Reuters quoted Indonesia's Lumagang Vice President Inda Masdor as saying during a press conference that a sudden eruption of the volcano killed one person and injured 41 others with burns, while videos released by emergency officials showed residents running to escape while clouds of smoke and ash covered nearby villages in East Java province. .
The country's disaster agency indicated that the authorities are setting up tents to receive the affected people, but the thick smoke is hampering the evacuations.

Semeru volcano is located at the highest peak on the island of East Java and is one of nearly 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia.
